Bangkok (City of Angels)

Thai rarely call their capital "Bangkok"
but instead refer to it as "Krung Thep" (City of Angels), an
abbreviated version of the full ceremonial and official name;
"Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok
Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman
Awatan Satit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit"
The name can be translated as " The city of angels, the great city the
residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city (of Ayuthaya) of God
Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the
happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the
heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and
built by Visnukarn" It is no surprise that The Guinness Book of Records
registered it as the world 's longest name for capital.
